Publishers discounts on Open Access publishing
The MENDELU Library is a member of the National Centre for Electronic Information Resources CzechELib | VIDEO about Open Access CzechELib. Some publishers have concluded new contracts for access to their journals, where vouchers for publishing in the Open Access journals of these publishers are also part of this contract. If the voucher is used, the author does not pay the fee for Open Access publishing (APC = Article Processing Charge).
NEWS FOR 2026
Springer, Taylor & Francis: New contracts with publishers Springer, Taylor & Francis are being concluded in 2026. Currently, it is not possible to apply for tokens/vouchers with these publishers. We currently do not know when tokens will be available (when the contract for the Czech Republic will be signed) and we do not know the exact number of tokens allocated to MENDELU.
American Chemical Society, De Gruyter, Cambridge University Press a Royal Society of Chemistry New contracts with these publishers are being concluded in 2026. Currently, it is not possible to apply for tokens/vouchers with these publishers. If you would like to apply for a discount, please contact us: open-science@mendelu.cz.
Elsevier: A new contract has been concluded with the publisher Elsevier, which began to apply from January 1, 2026. Currently, you can already apply for a discount, but we do not yet know the number of tokens that will be allocated to Mendel University in Brno. If you would like to apply for a discount, please contact us: open-science@mendelu.cz. Thank you.
Wiley: The terms of discounts at Wiley remain unchanged. You can currently apply for a discount.
Publishers
MENDELU has discounts available for publishing in Open Access for 2026 from the following publishers: American Chemical Society, De Gruyter, Elsevier, Springer Nature, Taylor and Francis, Wiley, Cambridge University Press and Royal Society of Chemistry.
Requirements
- Discount applies to hybrid journals (partially Open Access journal: journal allows you to publish articles as part of a subscription, but also offers to publish some articles in Open Access for a fee.)
- the corresponding author must be affiliated with Mendel University in Brno
- journal must be listed in the list of the journals eligible for discount! (version 7, 15.04.2025), use filter for Mendel university and a publisher. New list for 2026 is being prepared.
Discount process
- If you are not sure whether the university still has vouchers available, write to us at open-science@mendelu.cz
- After the peer review process, the publisher will contact you and send you a link to their system by e-mail.
- In the system, select Open Access publishing and Institutional Agreement: Mendel University in Brno.
- The Open Science Center will automatically receive a request and approve/disapprove your discount based on the number of remaining vouchers.
- Once approved, the Article Processing Charge (APC) will be zero, you will pay nothing.
- If the Open Science centrum does not approve the discount, you will pay the APC from your department funds, or it is possible to choose to publish under the subscription (the article won´t be Open Access).

When publishing in Open Access, choosing a Creative Commons license is part of the Author Publishing Agreement. We recommend authors to choose the Creative Commons Attribution CC-BY license, in accordance with the requirements of some projects.
